5:00 pm          Program Briefing and Information Meeting

6:00 pm          Speaker presentation:  Miguel Coyula, Havana urban     development specialist

8:00 pm          Welcome Dinner at El Aljibe Restaurant with Cuban guests

Thursday, January 3 (Havana)

Breakfast at the hotel

 9:00 am          Leave from hotel lobby

 9:30 am          Visit to the Antonio Nuñez Jímenez Foundation for Nature and Humanity (FANJ):  Overview of the work of the FANJ, presentation on Cuba´s environmental policies, permaculture projects, etc.

(Site visit of the FANJ, museum, libraries, etc. and Speaker presentations)

12:30 pm        Lunch 

 1:30 pm         Walking Tour of Old Havana with the guide (including the Artisans’ Market, visits                          to sites of environmental, historical and cultural interest, etc.)

5:00 pm          Special Peformance: “La Colmenita” at Teatro del Orden Tercero

Friday, January 4 (Havana)

 9:00 am          Leave from hotel lobby

 9:30 am          Panel presentation on Social Work in Cuba – Odalys Gonzalez Juban, President of              the “Sociedad Cubana de Trabajadores Sociales de la Salud” and others

(Either at the FANJ or at Casa de la Amistad)

Lunch (Not Included, organized by guide)

 2:00 pm          Visit to the Casa Comunitaria Paulo Freire (La Lisa)

 7:00 pm          Dinner at the hotel

 8:00 pm         Baseball game (Havana vs. Pinar del Rio)

Saturday, January 5 (Havana / Matanzas)

Breakfast at the hotel and hotel check-out

  9:00 am         Leave from hotel lobby

 9:30 am         Visit the “Organoponico de Alamar” – meet with this urban gardens complex cooperative’s president, Miguel Salcines, and other community members

Lunch at the Organipanico (Not included – vegetarian)

 1:00 pm          Drive to Matanzas

 3:00 pm         Tour of the City of Matanzas and Welcome by FANJ and ICAP Delegations

 5:30 pm         Hotel check-in

 7:00 pm          Dinner at the hotel

Evening:          Cultural Options in the City of Matanzas (TBD)

 

MATANZAS PROGRAMMING REQUESTS

being organized by the Matanzas FANJ and ICAP Matanazas  

 

·       Visit and meeting / panel presentation at the Matanzas Seminary – topic: Religions in Cuba, community activism, etc.

·       Visit to one or more of the Seminary’s community projects

·       Visit to the “Estación Experimental Pastos y Forrajes” in Perico Municipality, Matanzas

·       Visit to a FANJ permaculture project

·       Visit to the Bellamar Caves / FANJ delegate presentation.

·       Visit to a Polyclinic and talk on Cuban health care system

·       Downtown Matanzas incl. visits to Ediciones Vigia, Farmacia Colonial, etc.

·       Time for a few hours at a beach and/or along the Canimar River

 9:30 am          Visit the University of Havana campus (student-led campus tour)  

Visit FLACSO and/or the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales / Social Work department

12:00 noon      Lunch at Casa de Amistad (Included)

 2:00 pm          ICAP visit (our primary host organization)

 3:30 pm         Visit to “Vida Sana, Aire Pura” Community food and conservation project

 6:00 pm         Early Dinner at the Hotel

 7:00 pm          Dance interchange with Via Danza group (Danza Chevere) at Club Almendares

 

Thursday, January 10 (Havana)

Breakfast at the hotel

9:30 am          Speaker(s) Presentation at FANJ on variety of Cuban Agricultural organizations and programs Rafael Hernandez; Miguel Figueras, others

12:30 pm        Cultural Exchange and visit to the home/studios of artist, Jose Fuster in Jaimanitas

Lunch with the artist, family and neighbors (Not included)

 3:00 pm         Visit to Cuba Energía — Renewable Energy Presentation

 7:00 pm          Dinner at the hotel

                        Evening speaker presentation* and/or cultural options (Buena Vista Social Club                               possibly this evening)

                       

Friday,  January 11 (Havana / Pinar del Rio)

Breakfast at the hotel and hotel check-out

                        All day excursion to Las Terrazas:  Tour community, visit museum, reforestation                                projects, artists’ studios, school and family doctor clinic (if possible), La Moka eco                      hotel, etc., Organic garden and restaurant of Tito Nuñez

Lunch at El Romero (Included)

                        Visit CITMA Eco Station in Los Rosarios Biosphere Reserve, swim in river or hike  

Continue on to Viñales Valley

Hotel check-in and Dinner at the hotel

Saturday, January 12 (Pinar)

Breakfast at the hotel

AM:                 Visit to “La Carreta” community arts project with Down syndrome kids, etc.                          Other visits in Pinar del Rio city (and/or possible visit to a Tobacco farm)

Lunch on the road (Not included)

PM:                 Visit to a FANJ-coordinated permaculture project

Dinner at the hotel

Evening:         CDR meeting/gathering (neighborhood organization)

 

Sunday, January 13 (Pinar del Rio / Havana)

Breakfast at the hotel. Hotel check-out

All day:            Viñales Valley: Hike to mojotes, underground cave and river, vista point

                        Return to Havana (3 hour drive)
